Distinct functions of ventral CA1 and dorsal CA2 in social memory

For animals that live in social groups, the ability to recognize conspecifics is essential. Recent studies of both human patients and animal models have vigorously sought discern precise mechanisms by which hippocampal neurons neural circuits contribute encoding, consolidation, storage, retrieval memory. In particular, optogenetic manipulation enables us investigate presence memory engrams. We recently revealed engrams ventral CA1 neurons, using calcium (Ca2+) imaging. present manuscript, we discuss current viewpoints on two subregions regards representation, namely dorsal CA2 for information processing storage memory, specifically from perspectives behavioral neuroscience neurophysiology.
